Magazine Covers are the main way publishers get the readers attention. For example, the 2020 Swim Suit Sports Illustrated edition, the first thing you see on that magazine is Katy Boch in a swimsuit showing off her body. The male population of magazine readers are going to see that and are going to want to see more. As soon as something catches your eye, like a girl in a swim suit you want to know more and you want to see more. Another good example of this is the GQ Travis Scott cover, a male reader would notice two things out of this cover. First, rapping sensation Travis Scott, second is the colorful lights, the red and blue jumps out at you and it's quite amazing how the photographer did this. Another main thing in Magazines are the feature article. These articles are normally a sit down interview with the person on the cover. As mentioned earlier The Travis Scott GQ magazine is filled with ad's and short articles until the main article hits you which is a 4-5 page long interview with Travis Scott himself. On the other side of the spectrum, Southern Living targets everyone since their main topic is food. Let's be honest... who doesn't like food? Their front page is a popular dish from the South that is platted very fancy and looks amazing. As soon as you open the first page you see an advertisement of a River Cruise down in the South. The advertisement shows exactly where you would go and what you would see. In the magazine cosmopolitan, the first thing that jumps out at you on the cover is "Wear a damn mask". That catches a readers attention more then anything. The publisher overstepped a boundary and started to curse on their magazine cover. It was a smart advertising approach though.
